At LunarivoryWorks, our design philosophy is rooted in the concept of 'essential beauty'. We believe that the objects we surround ourselves with should not just fill space, but create atmosphere. Our production process honors the inherent qualities of New Zealand clay and the soft, diffused light of the southern hemisphere.

Each vessel begins as a meditation on form. We reject the rapid pace of modern manufacturing in favor of slow, intentional building. This approach allows every piece to develop its own personality—a subtle curve here, a unique textural variation there—making it a true artifact of the moment it was created.

Designing with Neutrals

Neutral tones are often misunderstood as 'safe' or 'empty'. In reality, a palette of ivory, cream, and pale stone requires the highest level of design precision. Without color to distract the eye, form and texture become the primary storytellers.

When styling with Lunarivory pieces, consider the play of light throughout the day. A matte porcelain vessel that appears soft and uniform in the morning mist will reveal complex architectural shadows as the afternoon sun grazes its surface. Layering these pieces against natural wood or raw linen creates a tactile dialogue that feels both ancient and contemporary.

Hand-building process

From Clay to Vessel

The journey of a Lunarivory vessel is one of transformation. We source specific New Zealand clays known for their purity and strength. The hand-building process is rhythmic and patient; we allow the material to dictate the final height and volume, respecting the structural limits of the porcelain.

After the initial forming, the piece must dry slowly—often for weeks—to prevent tension cracks. This period of 'resting' is as critical as the firing itself. Once bone-dry, the vessel undergoes a series of firings in our studio kiln, reaching temperatures that vitrify the clay into the luminous, stone-like objects our collectors cherish.
